No, you need a modem. You can’t even use a phone cable as a LAN cable if you lop the ends of and conenct up RJ45 connectors – the cable simply isn’t up to transmitting data at etherrnet speeds.
I’m not sure I understand your question. Are you asking about whether you can use an RJ-11 (modular phone) cable instead of RJ-45? Or are you saying your PC/laptop has an RJ-11 jack, and you want to wire that to the router?
While someone might finangle a phone cable to work as a LAN cable, it’s not worth the trouble. It’s better to just buy a LAN cable – they’re not expensive.
If your PC or laptop has only an RJ-11 jack, then you need to buy a network adapter. Since most PC’s have them built-in today, there is very little demand for separate adapters, and you can probably find one on eBay, craigslist, or a garage sale virtually free. Or if you want less trouble installing, buy a USB network adapter.
