why would using my cordless phone interfere with my cable connection and router?

when i use my cordless phone, my signal from my router cant be picked up by my laptop and sometimes it cuts off the cable internet from the cable box to the desktop computer.

  1. The phone probably is a 2.4 GHz phone which is the same frequency that the wireless routers normally use. There is a way to select a different channel on the router and possibly work around it. My take is to go get a good 5.8 GHz phone and be done with it. The range is usually better and you have less of a chance of the neighbors hearing your calls from bleed over or being on the same channels.

  2. The problem arises because your phone is using the same frequency as your router — this causes destructive interference and disrupts your internet, usually cutting it off when someone calls you. You either have to change phones (this is what I had to do) to one with a higher or lower frequency than your router (which is most probably 2.8GHz), remove all phones with the same frequency at least 100m away from your router, or change the frequency on the router (which doesn’t always work).
