Cisco Router Faliure Prevention?

January 28th, 2010 · 1 Comment

Failure of a remote cisco router would prevent network traffic from working on a network. What key features would an enterprise router(s)need to have implemented to minimise failure?
By faliure, I mean just faliure of the device. This could be a power faliure, parts going wrong; like flash loosing memory, or even blowing up.

What kind of failure are you talking about? Hardware Failure where the device just blows up?

If that’s the case, you need redundancy. If you are talking about Routers and/or Core Switches, you need to configure two devices to be on HSRP (Hot Standby Routing Protocol) so that if one device goes down, the other device will pick up the slack.
