		<description>I would also expect a powered-up media converter to cause the switch to show link (even if there&#039;s no fiber singnal coming into the media converter).  But any given model of media converter might work in unexpected ways.  Do you have (or can you borrow) a known-good media converter of the same type in order to see what it actually does?  (Also confirm that the particular switch port shows link when a known-good Cat5e cable with a signal on it is plugged in.)</description>
