The first one is very clear that is is used to connect a Modem. but there is other use as well.

    AUX port is usually used to get dial-in access to the router, and it can also support SLIP and PPP and dial-on-demand async network access.

    you can use the aux port to configure you router for
    remote access via a device like a modem.

    The main purpose was for modem dial in to the router, but you can also use it similar to a console port if you configure it properly.
