which cisco router for a small network?
Hi,
I have 2 webservers that need access to the outside world and then 6 other computers on an internal network providing media-storage/databases etc.
I want a cisco router (well rather my customer wants a cisco router) with built in firewall to interface with the world. Any idea what cisco router to choose? The Cisco website is SOOO COMPLICATED.
Should I get two switches.. one for the internal network as well and daisy chain it with the cisco router? Is this possible? Um, I have no idea what I’m doing.
Yes feel sorry for my customer.
Thanks, James
wait maybe that should be cisco switch.
If they insist on Cisco, the PIX 501 is a good fit — it’ll do everything you’re likely to need.
If you’re not stuck on Cisco, I like Fortinet FortiGate firewalls.
By the way — most "small business" firewalls include routing capabilities.
You can put as many switches as you like behind these devices — all on the LAN side. You’ll have to configure the device (Cisco or whatever you choose) to permit access to people on the outside (internet).
