Question by ??High Hopes And Velvet Ropes!!: Using a Belkin router with Comcast high speed internet?
Im trying to setup my belkin router with my comcast internet but after hooking up everything I can’t get on the internet wirelessly but the internet works on my pc. Does anyone know hoe I can fix this? I had verizon up until recently.

If you can connect with an Ethernet connection, the problem isn’t with the connection to the ISP. You have something misconfigured in the wireless between the laptop and the router.

Did you configure the wireless part of the router when you set it up?

You really didn’t provide a lot of details, so I’m just guessing here.

To be as secure as possible, you want to setup your wireless network to encrypt traffic and prevent snoopers from stealing your data.

I bought a new wireless N router, you know the typical one for $ 40 on Amazon. Now, it says I need to connect it to my computer in order for it to work. How can I not connect it to any computers and have it work, my last router did and my modem is in a different room from my computer.

To set up the new router, you need to connect your computer to the router with a hard wire network cable. This is ONLY needed when programing the router and setting up the wifi. Once programed, the hard wire will not be needed in the future, unless you should need to reprogram.

If you do not have a long enough cable, you may have to temporarily move the modem or the computer so they reach.

An experienced hacker won’t leave signs. Inexperienced ones can be foiled…

You can look at the security log on your router for an IP address from a remote site that keeps touching your router.

Use NSLOOKUP at the DOS prompt. Type Set Type=PTR and then type in that IP address. It might tell you a domain it came from. You can go to that domain’s web site and find a report abuse link where you can report the offender.

Change the password on the router to a strong password 6 characters and three numbers that NOT contiguous to make it hard.

Clear all spyware and virus from your computers. Make sure that the default OS firewall is enabled and you can even add a thirdparty firewall.

Change all passwords on your computers often.
