    You guys should have mentioned that WEP is not sufficient for security. WEP encryption can be cracked in a matter of minutes. You said use “something like WPA” should have said do not use WEP if you care about being secure.

  2. I also not recommend to connect to WEP networks. Suddenly Windows do not inform you about network characteristics before you trying to connect to it, so i’m using Maxidix Wifi Suite for that.

  3. I stopped hiding SSID after reading MICROSOFT now discourages it, hiding only mucks up usability and is no replacement for strong encryption WPA2 and strong passwords. It seems XP, VISTA, and Win7 Clients broadcast the hidden SSID everywhere you travel with your laptop as well which might also effect network traffic on 2003 server at least.

  7. Finally! I understand more about what can happen and why. This is a great explanation for average people who are just barely able to set up a wireless, but don’t have the security in and outs or whys! To those who ‘know’ this, it is simple. But many of us don’t know it all quite yet.
